wandering niagara header

Growing up in small town Niagara, my pals and I explored the many farm fields, wooded ravines and broken down shacks in my neighbourhood. Nowadays we would never dream of trespassing onto someone's property or allowing our children to wander around dangerous falling down buildings. The inspiration for this series comes from my love of Niagara. Please check back to view future additions.

Grand Old House 265Title: Grand Old House

16 X 20

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: SOLD

Notes: This house used to sit along Hwy 8 where Blue Sky Nurseries is located. A close friend and the Ecker family have the two pen and ink originals that I created decades ago. This house was my beginning into doing art commission of houses.

Mothers Day Blossoms 265Title: Mothers Day Blossoms

18 X 24

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: SOLD

Notes: I painted this in shades of soft pinks and greens to capture the gentleness of early spring and blossoms.

Tractor RoadTitle: Tractor Road

16 X 20

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: $250

Notes: I grew up playing in this ravine but now it's private property. I did take a slow walk through the woods a few years ago and snapped some memories.

Path in Woods Title: Path in Woods

16 X 20

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: SOLD

Notes: This could be any trail along the Bruce Trail or in someone's back forty.

Train Car GrimsbyTitle: Train Car, Grimsby

11 X 36

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: Negotiable

Notes: This was a personal challenge, and throughout the several months I revisited it; it was never fun or easy to paint.  I photographed the back of the Grimsby Train Station not long before it burned down several decades ago. The train car was attached and used as part of the Railhouse Restaurant. I found the electrical wires and cables intriguing and included most of them in my painting, an ode to the cause of the fire; electrical. I hope it ends up somewhere in Grimsby where many people can enjoy it.

Blossom TimeTitle: Blossom Time

24 X 30

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: SOLD

Notes: After I painted this, it looked hauntingly familiar. Then, I remembered my mother's set of china called "Blossom Time" by Royal Albert. Justly named.

Grimsby Beach PathTitle: Grimsby Beach Path

24 X 30

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: SOLD

Notes: This is a personal favourite and it gets a lot of compliments from my viewers and family.  I tried to capture the beauty of fall colours in those tall trees and crisp blue lake.

Combine in VinelandTitle: Combine in Vineland

11 X 15

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price $325

Notes: I liked the look of the old combine sitting in the snowy grape field with the old Pelham Union schoolhouse sitting in the background. The schoolhouse is a residence now; I'm so glad to see it was preserved.

Cliff at Cave SpringsTitle: Cliff at Cave Springs

24 X 36

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: $800

Notes: Folks in Lincoln know the folklore and history of these cliffs. I photographed this scene standing at the very edge of the escarpment many years ago. I've done three paintings of it; this being the largest. This painting was selected for the 2014 Juried show at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa.

wn porch and vines at lakelawn 300Title: Porch and Vines at Lakelawn

8 X 16

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price $190

Notes: Sometimes I just can't let go of a subject matter. I did several drawing and paintings of this old house decades ago before it was graciously restored. I know there are some prints and originals out there of the same porch.

Grimsby PierTitle: Grimsby Pier

8 X 16

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price SOLD

Notes: The old pier at Grimsby Beach is a peaceful reminder of historical times long ago.

Pumpkin CratesTitle: Pumpkin Crates

8 X 16

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price SOLD

Notes: This is a picture I have wanted to paint for many years now, as the land is now a subdivision in Grimsby. Not many fields are left with open vistas right up to the escarpment.

Kew House and TreeTitle: Kew House and Tree

9 X 10 1/2

Medium: Watercolour

Price: $225

Notes: I never drive past this place without admiring the stone wall and big trees. This is the smallest subject of my favourite series.

Tree and Wall Title: Tree and Wall

15 X 17 1/2

Medium: Pencil

Price: SOLD

Notes: Drawing is calming to me whereas painting is exciting; therefore working on this was very meditative. Again, it's of the Kew property; sometimes I have trouble letting go of a subject matter.

Mr. Lamb's CarTitle: Mr. Lamb's Car

16 X 20

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: $325

Notes: This is actually an old truck from somewhere around the 1930's. It sat rusting away in the field for many decades... it's all but a memory and now... a painting.

Mr. Lamb's Barn Title: Mr. Lamb's Barn

16 X 20

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: $325

Notes: Mr. Lamb and his barn are long gone. The barn sat vacant in a field behind Mr. Lamb's house for decades. I wish I had of been brave enough to explore the big barn, but it stood rather intimidating.

Kew Estate StudyTitle: Kew Estate Study

10 X 14

Medium: Watercolour

Price: $225

Notes: Thanks to the Lincoln Heritage Committee, I have learned that William Kew was in the business of making carriages, buggies and wagons, and ran a successful factory in downtown Beamsville. He couldn't have imagined that one hundred and fifty years later, his homestead would one day be open to the public as a winery.

Red and White Store Title: Red & White Store

16 X 20

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: $425

Notes: The old grocery store has dormers on the top floor, but from this viewpoint you can't seem them. I checked. I took a photo of this building decades ago, knowing it was historical. It seems fitting that it has come back to life as an antique store.

Forsythia and TreeTitle: Forsythia and Tree

16 X 20 on Canvas

Medium: Water Mixable Oils

Price: SOLD

Notes: For quite a long time I have been reworking this picture of an old tree in front of the Kew house in Beamsville. Finally one day after another of many touch-ups, I decided to call it quits. The picture is done.

The BakeshopTitle: The Bakeshop

14 1/2 X 17, Unframed

Medium: Watercolour

Price: $350

Notes: The whole time I worked on this painting I had a craving for a swirly topped chocolate cupcake.
